⚠️ Warning: Missing Your IEP

If you miss your Initial Enrollment Period and don't have creditable employer coverage, you face a permanent 10% penalty for every 12-month period you delay. This penalty applies to your Part B premium for life and grows as premiums increase.

Important: VA coverage is NOT creditable for Part B. TRICARE for Life is NOT creditable for Part B. Only employer-sponsored group health insurance from an employer with 20+ employees counts as creditable coverage.

Questions About Your Medicare Enrollment?

With nearly 20 years of Medicare experience, my team and I work exclusively with veterans. We'll help you avoid penalties and make sure you're not overpaying for Medicare.

How the Initial Enrollment Period Works

7-Month Window

Your IEP is a 7-month period: 3 months before your 65th birthday month, your birthday month, and 3 months after. Enroll early for the best coverage start date.

Coverage Start Dates

Enroll in the first 3 months = coverage starts the 1st of your birthday month. Wait until your birthday month or later = coverage is delayed.

VA Coverage Doesn't Count

VA health benefits are NOT considered "creditable coverage" for Medicare Part B. Only employer-sponsored group health insurance counts.

SSDI Recipients: Special Rule

If you received Medicare before 65 through SSDI, any Part B penalty completely resets to zero when you turn 65.
